FAQ’s

What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis uses learning principles to teach and strengthen new, socially appropriate skills and reduce behaviors that interfere with daily life.

What is the purpose of ABA?

To build practical skills—communication, independence, self-regulation—and support participation at home, school, and in the community.

How many hours of ABA are recommended per week?

It varies by age and needs. After evaluation, your BCBA will propose a schedule that fits your goals and routines.

What’s the difference between a BCBA, RBT, and BT?

A BCBA designs and oversees care plans; Registered Behavior Technicians and Behavior Technicians implement sessions under BCBA supervision.

Is ABA ethical?

STEPS follows established ethical standards and emphasizes child dignity, family collaboration, and data-driven decisions.

Can ABA be done in a group setting?

Some goals are addressed 1:1 and others in small groups. Your team will recommend what’s appropriate.

What ages do you serve?

We support individuals across ages. The evaluation helps determine the right service mix.

Will you work with my child’s school?

Yes. School collaboration and advocacy are core to our approach.

Does insurance cover ABA services?

In Maryland, many plans include ABA benefits. We’ll verify your coverage and guide pre-authorization.

How can I support my child’s ABA therapy at home?

Your team will share strategies, practice routines, and progress updates so you can reinforce skills between sessions.
